The No. 2 seed St. John’s Red Storm had high hopes of making a Final Four. Unfortunately, St. John’s fell to No. 10 Arkansas, 75-66, in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
Still, it was a strong year in Rick Pitino’s second season with the program, and the future is incredibly bright for St. John’s.

Just after the NCAA Tournament, St. John’s got a big addition as five-star Arizona State guard Josan Sanon decided to transfer to the Red Storm.
However, questions swirled around the future of Zuby Ejiofor, the second-leading scorer for St. John’s
On Thursday, these questions were answered as it was revealed that Ejiofor is returning to St. John’s for another season, per St. John’s podcast host David Berov.

‘NEWS: Zuby Ejiofor says he’s coming back to St. John’s for his senior year. The First Team All-Big East forward had the opportunity to test the NBA Draft waters but said he’s “not ready to leave St. John’s and Coach P. We’ve got Unfinished Business,”‘ he wrote on X.

Ejiofor began his career at Kansas before spending the past two years at St. John’s.
In 2023-24, Ejiofor played in 33 games but had just one start while averaging just over 11 minutes per game.
In 2024-25, his numbers went way up. He started 35 of 36 games, playing 31.8 minutes per and averaging 14.7 points with 8.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks.
Ejiofor was the leading scorer in the loss to Arkansas as he scored 23 points with 12 rebounds, the only starter to score double-figures in that game.
So, it’s huge news that he is returning for the 2025-26 season, and it’s a key piece for Pitino to build around in hopes of another Big East title.
