Steph Curry out, Gary Payton II questionable for Warriors vs. Hawks

The Golden State Warriors are kicking off a six-game road trip today with a visit to the Atlanta Hawks. It’s a chance for the Dubs to further gain some ground in the Western Conference standings, as a win would pull them within a game of the Memphis Grizzlies for the fifth seed.

Neither team is at full health for Saturday’s showdown. Here’s the full injury report.

Warriors

Out — Steph Curry (left pelvic contusion)

Curry is not making the trip to Atlanta after getting injured on a very hard fall during Thursday’s win over the Toronto Raptors. The good news is that he didn’t suffer any structural damage, so he likely won’t be out for an extended period of time, but it’s unclear when he’ll return.

Questionable — Gary Payton II (left knee inflammation)

After missing one game, Payton could potentially return to the court tonight, which would certainly be helpful, especially with Curry’s absence.

Hawks

Out — Clint Capela (left fourth metacarpal ligament injury)

The Dubs won’t have to contend with Atlanta’s veteran center, as Capela has been shelved for nearly two weeks, and will likely miss the rest of the season.

Out — Jalen Johnson (left shoulder surgery)

Johnson has fully broken out. The 20th overall pick in 2021 averaged just 2.4 points as a rookie and 5.6 as a sophomore, but last year bumped his output to 16.0 points, and this year was all the way up at 18.9 before suffering a season-ending injury in January.

Out — Kobe Bufkin (right shoulder surgery)

The Hawks somehow have two recent first-round picks who are out for the year with shoulder surgery, after Bufkin — the No. 15 pick in the 2023 draft — suffered a season-ending injury in December.

Out — Larry Nance Jr. (right medial femoral condyle fracture)

Yes, Nance is still in the NBA, though he hasn’t played in about five weeks, and has only appeared in 24 games this year.

Out — Jacob Toppin (left elbow inflammation)

Toppin is still trying to find his place in the league, as the younger brother of Obi has appeared in just 25 games in his two-year career … and none since signing a two-way deal with the Hawks.

Out — Keaton Wallace (right shoulder AC sprain)

What is going on with the Hawks and shoulders?

Probable — Trae Young (right Achilles tendinitis)

It looks like Young will play, which is obviously huge for the Hawks. He leads the NBA with 11.4 assists per game.

Probable — Caris LeVert (right knee soreness)

LeVert has been playing really well since coming over to the Hawks in a deadline deal from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Enjoy the action, Dub Nation! The game tips off at 4:00 p.m. PT.
