Costco officially announced this month a big-time change – and perk – for its massive membership base.
The CEO of the big box warehouse store company announced during a March 6 earnings call that he’s upgrading a big-time perk for the company’s members. Costco CEO Ron Vachris announced that one of the most popular perks of the membership card, the gas station, will be going through a nice change.
Vachris announced during his March 6 earnings call that he is changing the operating hours for the Costco gas stations. Costco will be extending its “gas station hours in North America during the quarter to make filling up at Costco more convenient for our members.”
It’s a big perk for the 137 million members globally, though this perk will only be available for those in North America.
The new hours for the Costco gas station will be Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m, unless otherwise noted. Hours for the gas stations in Hawaii and Alaska could differ.
“Generally, our stations are now staying open an hour later than they did previously, with some opening earlier as well,” Vachris told investors on his earnings call.
People are excited.
“Adulthood is being excited about the new hours at the costco gas station,” one man joked.
“How are we gonna celebrate this,” another person wrote.
One person added: “One of the best decisions ever.”
Costco announced that it’s making the change because of an increase in demand. It’s possible that the big box warehouse stores could change their hours inside, too.
“We did see some demand from the commuters, both at the early hours and the evening hours, so I think that that’s going to be a real benefit to those folks as well,” Vachris added. “But we will continue to look at the warehouse hours. No plans in place at this time.”
