(KFVS) – Multiple tornado warnings were issued throughout the Heartland overnight Friday into Saturday, March 15.
We have reports of damage in several communities.
Thousands of power outages are also being reported.
The National Weather Service in Paducah says survey teams will be investigating 10 possible tornado paths in the Heartland, but could add more locations depending on storm reports submitted.
Missouri
One person is dead and multiple homes were damaged in Butler County. A shelter has been set up at the Black River Coliseum.
The Poplar Bluff Police Department is asking people to avoid the areas where damage has been reported so first responders have room to work.
Resources and a disaster team are heading to Wayne County to assist with severe storm recovery, especially in the Piedmont area. Wayne County Coroner Mark Smith said eight people have died in storm-related incidents. A curfew is also in effect.
According to Jackson Fire Rescue, multiple units from the Region E HSRT are headed to Piedmont for storm and tornado recovery response.
Photos posted on the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Facebook page shows extensive damage at the Webb Creek Marina and Bluff View Marina at Clearwater Lake in Reynolds County.
The Cape Girardeau Police Department is reporting multiple trees, limbs and power lines down.
The Perry County Sheriff’s Department reports the following, as of 2:30 a.m. on Saturday:
- 1500 block of Hwy. B impassable due to power lines down
- PHS Dist. 32 campus closed to vehicle and foot traffic due to damage. Please avoid the area
- Debris and trees down on Hwy. O
- Power line down on Hwy. E at PCR 202. Please use alternate route
Scott City firefighters are out checking for downed power lines and trees. They ask residents to stay home and inside until daylight when it’s safer to move around.
Delta South Nursing and Rehabilitation in Sikeston reports that 54 residents were transferred to other nursing facilities in the area after their facility received extensive storm damage. The Sikeston facility reports the building has mostly roof and water damage, but the storm did take out HVAC units and blew out some windows.
Sikeston Department of Public Safety reports there are several areas of town with damage and downed power lines. They are asking residents to stay off the streets.
According to the US National Weather Service, a Tornado Emergency was issued for Fremont and Van Buren, Missouri. Van Buren EMD said two people were trapped in a house by Fremont.
Kennett city leaders say they are working to assess the storm damage. They ask residents to call 573-888-5366 to report downed power lines and broken poles.
Illinois
The Herrin Fire Department responded to a fire on a covered patio deck in the middle of severe weather.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department reported some damage to structures as well as trees and power lines down across the roads in places. They say emergency services are still assessing the damage and ask residents to limit travel to damaged areas.
The Randolph County Emergency Management completed preliminary damage assessment Saturday morning. They say six homes, eight out buildings, and numerous campers were either damaged or destroyed.
Kentucky
According to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, the strongest storm went near Fancy Farm, Lowes, Melber and into McCracken County. They say there is no visible damage in any of those communities, as of around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.
