Kentucky defensive back Maxwell Hairston showed off his blazing speed at the 2025 NFL scouting combine on Friday.
Hairston recorded an unofficial time of 4.29 seconds in the 40-yard dash on his second attempt of the day, the best time of the 2025 combine so far.
He reached a top speed of 24.25 miles per hour during the run, via Next Gen Stats.
It was an impressive mark from the Wildcat, as he previously recorded an unofficial time of 4.30 seconds for his first 40-yard dash.
Hairston’s speed of 24.25 miles per hour on his second run represented the fifth-fastest top speed recorded at the combine since 2023, per NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah.
Friday’s finish likely wasn’t a surprise for Hairston, as he was anticipating a strong performance at the combine.
“This is what I train for,” Hairston told CBS Sports’ Aditi Kinkhabwala. “I’m excited to put that all on display, be able to show my athleticism, show my speed and just put on a show.”
The senior defensive back was limited to just seven games during his 2024 campaign due to a shoulder injury. He finished with 19 tackles for loss, four passes defensed, two forced fumbles and an interception.
Hairston has shown that he can create turnovers, as his five interceptions during his 2023 campaign were tied for the most among all SEC players.
He was ranked as the No. 7 cornerback and No. 42 overall prospect on the latest big board from Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department.
B/R NFL Scout Cory Giddings highlighted Hairston’s versatility in his scouting report.
“Known for his ball skills and high turnover rate, Hairston has shown the ability to capitalize on opportunities and plays with good instincts,” Giddings wrote. “His size and awareness make him an intriguing option for NFL teams seeking a cornerback who can contribute in multiple coverage schemes.”
Following his stellar 40-yard dash performance on Friday, Hairston’s draft stock should receive a boost.
