A Note on Completing This Quest
In the later stages of the game, resting at your tent will be temporarily unavailable. If you haven’t completed this quest before this happens, you’ll need to push through the main quests before you can alter the conditions of the locales again.
With Dareel’s final research report delivered, you’ll unlock the chance to help out Samin one last time. For his special research report, he wants you to track down a Sandstar.
Samin will give you a hint about finding these nocturnal creatures in the Windward Plains, and that’s to set the conditions of your quest to nighttime and Plenty. He’ll also tell you that these little creatures have sensitive hearing. Unfortunately, this does mean that they’ll hear you approaching from far away, alerting them and sending them scurrying, so chasing them down isn’t the best way to get them.
That sensitive hearing can come in handy though, if you equip yourself with some Sonic Bombs. If you don’t have any, use the Baunos flying around the Windward Plains, and snatch some Screamer Pods from them just like you did in the opening mission of Wilds.
Then, explore the sandy areas of the Windward Plains. We had the most luck in Area 13 while running across the dunes. Despite being small, the Sandstars are quite easy to spot, because they’re a vibrant blue and white color. They’ll look like a little puffy light blue ball, with another small puff of blue as its tail.
Slowly move around the dunes and as soon as you spot the little mouse-like creature, throw a Screamer Pod its way. You’ll need to be quick and equip your capture net to get it, though, as it won’t stay stunned for too long.
They’re also super fast, so if you miss, they’ll dart off light lightning. If you do miss, you can keep track of it by using your Seikret here. Once you’re on its tail, you can start to chase it and use the Screamer Pods to keep stopping it.
It might take a few tries to throw out a Screamer Pod, race over to it, and then capture it. As soon as you do get it, you’ll pop the I Caught a Shooting Star! trophy.
Return to Samin once you’ve caught the tricky little Sandstar, and you’ll receive:
