ICE WEATHER ALERT | Tracking travel impacting sleet and freezing rain in Maryland

Updated: Thursday 6:00 am by Meteorologist Amy Aaronson

We are tracking several winter storm systems within the next 7 to 10 days across Maryland.

The Fox 45 Weather Authority has issued a Weather Alert for the area including Baltimore for Freezing Rain and Ice impacts through Thursday morning.

A winter weather advisory is in effect through Thursday morning for our entire area.

Some travel impacts expected, especially north and west of Baltimore where the temperatures may be a bit colder and some roads may become icy overnight into early Thursday morning.

Ice accumulations of .25 to .5″ are possible in Carroll & Frederick Counties westward. But a Trace to .25″ of ice is also possible across the rest of the area with the highest accumulations north and west of Baltimore.

Slick spots especially on bridges and overpasses will be possible through Early Thursday morning along with school delays. But most areas will not see widespread power outages.

Eventually Thursday’s temperatures will rise into the upper 40s to low 50s and the wintry mix will all change to rain. Roads will have a chance to thaw out quickly as temperatures rise after daybreak.

Temperatures will turn cooler Friday and Saturday as highs top off in the mid 40s.

The active pattern looks to continue into the weekend with another good chance of a wintry mix to rain Saturday.

The third potential winter weather-maker comes Tuesday to Wednesday with the chance for accumulating snowfall and a wintry mix.
