Two Tennessee guards were named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List on Monday.
According to an announcement from the USBWA, Tennessee senior guard Zakai Zeigler and senior guard Chaz Lanier are among the 50 players on the watch list.
The Vols’ two selections have been Tennessee’s two top scorers with Lanier averaging 17.9 points and Zeigler averaging 12.3 points per game through 22 contests this season.
Lanier also has the highest three-point percentage on the Vols’ roster (among those who regularly shoot from the perimeter) while Zeigler leads Tennessee at 7.4 assists per game and became the Vols’ all-time program leader in steals earlier this season.
All in all, Zeigler and Lanier have combined for about 40% of Tennessee’s scoring and 61% of Tennessee’s three-point field goals.
“I’ll tell you what, I don’t know what I do without him,” Rick Barnes said of Zeigler in January. “I mean, he’s my comfort blanket. He really is.”
Tennessee is one of seven programs with multiple players on the list alongside Duke, Gonzaga, Iowa State, Kentucky, Purdue, and Rutgers.

The Oscar Robertson Trophy will be given to the winner at the NCAA Men’s Final Four in San Antonio, TX, in early April.
Zakai Zeigler missed Tennessee’s win over No. 5 Florida last Saturday with a knee injury but good news looks to be on the horizon. Zeigler told The Vol Club Locker Room Show this week that he anticipates playing against Missouri on Wednesday. Lanier dropped a game-high 19 points against Florida in Zeigler’s absence last weekend.
