School delays, cancellations due to cold temperatures for Wednesday in Borderland

Due to the cold and inclement weather, some school districts are announcing school delays and cancellations.

El Paso ISD:

El Paso ISD announced the district be closed on Wednesday for the entire day. It includes the cancellation of extended day learning classes for both morning and afternoon, as well as all on-ground student travel to extracurricular activities.

Socorro ISD

Canutillo ISD

Canutillo ISD will delay the start of classes and office hours by 2 hours on Wednesday, Jan. 8, in anticipation of frigid winter conditions throughout the region. Temperatures are expected to dip below freezing throughout the morning with wind-chill factors making the temperatures feel even colder.

Students will start their classes two hours later than normal at all CISD campuses. School buses also will pick up students two hours later than normal. The rest of the instructional day, including school bus drop off, will remain on a regular schedule.

District officials will continue to monitor weather conditions and work with city emergency response authorities to make further decisions. Please check the District’s website and social media — as well as your emails and phone messages — for further information.

Gadsden ISD

Gadsden Independent School District has decided to start classes with a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025, due to very low temperatures in the morning. Wind chill temperatures are expected to feel like eight degrees, and this adjustment ensures the safety of our students waiting at bus stops during these conditions. Staff members will report to work at their regularly scheduled time.
