Kansas State basketball’s road woes continue, and this time, it was a heartbreaker of the Wildcats’ own making.
After Max Jones’ 3-pointer gave the Wildcats a six-point lead with 3 minutes, 14 seconds left, it was all TCU as the Horned Frogs scored the final seven points for a 63-62 Big 12 victory at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
Noah Reynolds’ basket with 12.8 seconds left put TCU in front, and after a K-State timeout, Dug McDaniel’s drive to the basket rimmed out.
With the loss — K-State’s 12th straight dating back to last January — K-State fell to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in the Big 12. TCU improved to 8-5 and 1-1.
K-State which trailed by as many as eight points in the first half, but controlled most of the second period before going cold down the stretch. McDaniel and David N’Guessan both missed one-and-one free throw opportunities with the lead in the last 1:36.
McDaniel scored all of his team-high 12 points in the second half and had four of his five assists after the break. Coleman Hawkins added 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while N’Guessan had 10 points and 17 rebounds and Brendan Hausen 10 points, all in the first half.
Reyholds’ 18 points lead TCU, with Vasean Allette and Tarzarien White adding 14 each.
K-State now travels to Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Tuesday to face Oklahoma State.
