Despite a new deal to keep some Big Lots stores across the country open, Big Lots locations in Broome County are among hundreds that will soon close, or have already closed, since the company filed for bankruptcy.
Months after filing for bankruptcy and announcing the closing of all stores, Big Lots recently reached a deal that will allow for hundreds of stores across the United States to remain open.
The retailer on Friday announced a transaction with Boston-based asset liquidation firm Gordon Brothers Retail Partners resulting in the transfer of up to 400 Big Lots stores to Variety Wholesalers, Inc.
Variety Wholesalers plans to operate the stores acquired in the deal under the Big Lots brand and may employ current Big Lots employees at the stores and the one or two of Big Lots distribution centers it plans to acquire, according to a press release from the companies.
Is Big Lots in Vestal closing?
Yes. Banners hung outside the store, located at 150 Vestal Parkway W., indicate the store is closing.
The Vestal Big Lots closure announcement comes just a few months after Big Lots in Binghamton closed its doors.
Is Big Lots in Binghamton closed?
Yes. The closure of the Binghamton Big Lots, located on Glenwood Avenue, was previously announced this fall.
At the time, no plans to close the Vestal store were announced.
