Even the U.S. Post Office takes a break for Thanksgiving.
Post offices are closed on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov. 28) and mail won’t run that day so don’t expect that important letter to arrive in your box. Post offices will reopen on Black Friday (Friday, Nov. 29) and mail service will resume as normal, kicking off the busy holiday delivery season.
There is one more postal holiday in 2024 – Christmas Day on Thursday, Dec. 25.
2025 postal holidays include:
Wednesday, Jan. 1- New Year’s Day
- Monday, Jan. 20 – Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday
- Monday, Feb. 17 – Presidents Day
- Monday, May 26 – Memorial Day
- Thursday, June 19 – Juneteenth National Independent Day
- Friday, July 4 – Independence Day
- Monday, Sept. 1 – Labor Day
- Monday, Oct. 13 – Columbus Day
- Tuesday, Nov. 11 – Veterans Day
- Thursdays, Nov. 27 – Thanksgiving Day
- Thursday, Dec. 25 – Christmas Day
Postal officials recently said they are ready to handle the surge in holiday mail traffic.
“Thanks to the substantial progress we have made under the Delivering for America plan, we are ready and confident to handle the holiday surge,” said USPS Chief Retail and Delivery Officer and Executive Vice President Dr. Joshua Colin. “Our ability to move packages and mail throughout our network has never been stronger. USPS continues to be the most affordable and reliable way to ship packages and mail this holiday season and year-round.”
