Boy Injured After Drones Fell from the Sky During Florida Holiday Show

A holiday drone show in Florida was forced to cancel its second performance due to an injury this weekend.

Andrea Otero, the City of Orlando Public Information Manager, tells PEOPLE that the 8 p.m. show at Orlando’s Lake Eola Park did not go on as intended after the 6 p.m. one “had technical difficulties” on Saturday, Dec. 21.

Otero said the Orlando Fire Department (OFD) “was alerted to an individual who was reported to be injured during the show. Fire personnel were already at the park, staffing an emergency tent that was approximately 50 feet away from the scene of the incident. Paramedics began to render aid as soon as they made contact with the individual.”

Detectives with the Orlando Police Department (OPD), Otero added, “made contact with the individual’s family last night at the hospital and will continue to assist the FAA in obtaining evidence for the investigation.”

“Our thoughts are with the family and all those impacted by the outcome of this event,” she continued.

An attendee shared footage on TikTok of the moment one of the drones flew toward spectators, as someone shouted “Watch out, watch out!” before the clip abruptly ended.

In another video posted by show attendee Philippe, from the X (formerly Twitter) account MosquitoCoFL Podcast, a few dozen drones at the show appeared to crash into each other and fall from the sky onto the ground and lake below.

“You could see area that were missing the drones,” Philippe, who saw the show with his son, told News 6.

Mothers Jessica Lumedge and Adriana Edgerton later claimed that their son is “fighting for his life in ER” after “drones hit him in the face” during the event.

“Pray for my son, we went to the Drone show at Lake Eola and one of the drones hit him in the face,” Lumedge wrote on Facebook, alongside a photo of their son in the hospital with a bleeding lip.

“I have never been so scared. I can’t believe a drone show at Lake Eola Park turned into this. I’m scared terrified for my baby,” Edgerton added on her Facebook.

In a follow-up post, the mom revealed her son is having to undergo “emergency heart surgery” due to his injuries.

She called on the City of Orlando Government and Sky Elements Drones to be “held accountable” for the disastrous show.
