Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping days of the year, but because it’s considered something of a holiday, some people might be unsure how it will affect their mail and other deliveries.
The day after Thanksgiving is when many shoppers race to stores to take advantage of some of the best deals of the season. In recent years, as online shopping has become more commonplace, many of the best savings can be found on websites—on everything from clothing to technology and home appliances.
Is Mail Delivered on Black Friday?
While Black Friday might be seen as a shopping holiday to many, most mail services will remain open and deliver letters and packages as usual. That includes the United States Postal Service, which of course is closed on Thanksgiving Day.
FedEx and UPS will be operating as normal on Black Friday. On Thanksgiving Day, only certain types of emergency packages were delivered, so customers could experience a mail delay before Black Friday.
Are There Black Friday Stamp Deals?
Black Friday isn’t only an opportunity to score very good deals on clothing, appliances and other products.
You can also save big on stamps that day from a variety of websites. Savings could be as much as 70 percent on select stamps, depending on the retailer.
Is the Post Office Open on Black Friday?
While the post offices were closed for Thanksgiving, which is a federal holiday, they will be open for normal hours on Black Friday.
Also on Thanksgiving Day, UPS pickup and delivery services were suspended, except for UPS Express Critical. That service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Aside from UPS Express Critical, UPS closes down on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
FedEx has changed its delivery schedule, meaning express delivery could be delayed for the two days after Thanksgiving Day.
USPS, UPS, FedEx Deliveries on Black Friday
On Black Friday, the USPS, UPS and FedEx will return to their normal operating schedule. That means all deliveries should arrive as usual, but the exact hours of operation will depend on your location.
The USPS typically operates from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., while UPS stays open from 8:30 a.m. to sometime between 7 and 9 p.m.
FedEx hours can vary, so you should check with your local store about the exact times.
