MU’s Series With Georgia Dates Back To 1974
     Â
Saturday’s meeting will be the fourth all-time against the Bulldogs in a series that dates back to the 1974-75 campaign.
  Â
The programs first met on Dec. 27, 1974 in the opening game of the Milwaukee Classic and MU pulled away for a 100-70 victory prior to defeating Virginia the next night to claim the title in the two-game event.
  Â
Marquette and Georgia didn’t meet again until the 2016-17 season to open a home-and-home series, which would see each team claim a road victory.
Jones Collects Program’s Third Triple-Double
  Â
National Player of the Year candidate Kam Jones added another accomplishment to his standout career on Tuesday night against No. 6 Purdue, collecting the program’s third triple-double in over 100 seasons of competition.
  Â
The Memphis native finished the night with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in 36 minutes of action and his rebound and assist totals both marked personal bests. Â He had just three points at the intermission, but had already contributed seven boards and six assists in 16 minutes.
  Â
Prior to Tuesday, Marquette’s most recent triple-double came in the 2003 Elite Eight against Kentucky when Dwyane Wade finished with 29 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in the MU victory.
  Â
The only other player to collect a triple-double was Tony Miller (1991-95), who finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in an 80-65 win over Wisconsin on New Year’s Eve in 1994.  Â
Mitchell More Than Defensive Stopper
  Â
Senior guard Stevie Mitchell has earned a reputation as one of the nation’s top defenders during his career at Marquette, but early in 2024-25 his offensive ability is deserving of recognition as well.
  Â
The Reading, Pennsylvania native scored a career-high 21 points in the win over Purdue and his corner 3-pointer in the final minute allowed Kam Jones to collect a triple-double. Â He finished 6-of-11 from the floor and knocked down all eight of his free throw opportunities. Â He also chipped in four steals, two rebounds and a blocked shot in 30 minutes of action.
  Â
Mitchell has reached double figures in points in each of the last three outings and is averaging 18.7 points per contest while shooting 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the floor and 19-of-21 (90.5 percent) from the charity stripe. Â
#MUBB Continues Success vs. Ranked Teams
  Â
Marquette picked up its 18th victory against a ranked team under head coach Shaka Smart on Tuesday against No. 6 Purdue and improved to 11-2 at Fiserv Forum during his tenure vs. top-25 opponents.
  Â
The Golden Eagles snapped Purdue’s 39-game non-conference winning streak, which was the fourth-longest mark in NCAA Division I history.
  Â
Marquette is 5-0 to start the year for the second-straight season, but hasn’t opened a campaign 6-0 since 2011-12 when MU claimed its first 10 outings.
