Dolphins interested in 25-year-old Commanders safety, per report

Washington Commanders safety Darrick Forrest, who is set to become a free agent Wednesday, has received interest from the Miami Dolphins, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Forrest, who turns 26 in May, was a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft and emerged as a promising starter in the Washington defense during his second season with the team. But he played only five games in 2023 before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury and hardly saw the field in 2024 after the Commanders changed their defensive scheme under a new coaching staff and inserted safeties Jeremy Chinn and Quan Martin into the starting lineup.

The Dolphins are in need of safety help with both Jevón Holland and Jordan Poyer set to become free agents Wednesday. With that duo unlikely to return and the Dolphins without much salary cap space, Miami is on the hunt for thrifty solutions to its many roster holes, including the safety position.

Forrest, who recorded four interceptions, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a tackle for loss during his breakout 2022 season, will presumably come cheap after playing just 74 defensive snaps last season.
