OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Thousands of OPPD customers were without power after an outage in the Omaha metro early Tuesday.
At its peak, the outage impacted about 3,780 customers at once. This includes 2,651 in Sarpy County and 1,129 in Douglas County, according to OPPD’s outage map.
Power was restored to a majority of the Sarpy County customers early Tuesday. As of 10 a.m., there were 214 in Douglas and four in Sarpy without power.
In an update, OPPD says crews found a burnt pole on a distribution line that contributed to the outage of nearly 600 customers. Estimated restoration time is 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of L St. and the I-80 interchange.
Over 900 customers lost power due to a damaged pole near Bondesson Street and Blair High Road. Power was restored at about 5 a.m., and customers are expected to have power back by 1 p.m., according to OPPD.
Food Bank for the Heartland has cancelled their 1 p.m. volunteer shift at the food bank due to the outage. They say OPPD is working on restoring power to their building.
The heaviest concentration of outages was reported in the Papillion area.
Several intersections are without working traffic lights near the Douglas and Sarpy County line including: 72nd and Harrison, 84th and Harrison & 72nd and Giles.
Other lights in the area may be impacted. Until power is restored, drivers are asked to treat any of the intersections as all-way stops.
OPPD is making preparations as high winds and snow are on the way to the Omaha metro. They say high winds Tuesday night into Wednesday morning could impact Omaha’s power grid.
