“Lanterns,” the upcoming Green Lantern TV show from DC Studios and HBO, dropped a first look at Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler as the main heroes, John Stewart and Hal Jordan.
They may not be dressed up in their Green Lantern uniforms, but if you look closely you can see a green ring on Chandler’s finger. Otherwise, the two leads are in their civilian clothes and walking down a deserted highway.
Per the official logline, the series follows “new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.” The cast also includes Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan and Ulrich Thomsen as Green Lantern villain Sinestro.
“Lanterns” is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King. All three serve as executive producers along with James Hawes, with Hawes also directing the first two episodes.
A release date for “Lanterns” has yet to be announced. The first appearance of a Green Lantern in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe will be in this summer’s “Superman” movie, when Nathan Fillion debuts as Green Lantern Corps. member Guy Gardner.
Also announced recently was the upcoming animated series “My Adventures With Green Lantern,” a spinoff of the popular Max series “My Adventures With Superman.” The Green Lantern series “will follow high school student Jessica Cruz, who has her life upended when a Green Lantern Power Ring falls from the sky and chooses Cruz to be its champion. Things get even worse when more debris from the Lanterns’ ancient space war arrives – along with their alien foes,” reads the official logline for the animated series.
